“I would like to thank President Karol Nawrocki for keeping another promise made to Solidarity. A second motion for a referendum on climate policy will be submitted to the Senate,” Piotr Duda, head of the Solidarity trade union, wrote on X.
The chairman of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity” was responding to reports that the president would once again submit a motion to the Senate next week calling for a referendum on the future of the European Union’s climate policy.
“This time, senators will not be able to hide behind the excuse that the question was worded incorrectly. It is time for a clear declaration: either ‘for’ or ‘against’ allowing citizens to have their say,”
Duda stressed.
It should be recalled that yesterday the European Commission presented its long-awaited proposal for changes to the Emissions Trading System (ETS), the most costly element of the EU’s climate policy.
“Following earlier assurances from government representatives that they would secure a meaningful reform in Brussels, a breakthrough might have been expected. Unfortunately, the published proposal shows that, instead of genuine changes, we are dealing with merely cosmetic adjustments,”
stressed Paweł Szefernaker, Chief of Staff to Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
