TV Republika’s CEO Tomasz Sakiewicz announced that he will go to the prosecutor’s office to file a report on the possibility of a crime in connection with threats against investigative journalist Piotr Nisztor. They allegedly include a planned murder and attempts to intimidate the journalist.
TV Republika published excerpts from recordings in which an officer of the State Protection Service (SOP) stated outright that he would “break investigative journalist Piotr Nisztor’s legs” for his publications. Later in the conversation, he described the planned torture in detail and even discussed how to dispose of the body. “He’ll lie there for a while, so things quiet down… And then I’ll pour oil over him,” he said. The officer also mentioned killing the editor’s dogs.
“I ignored personal threats against me for a very long time,” Tomasz Sakiewicz admitted. The CEO of TV Republika said on air that when threats appeared against his children, he reported them to the prosecutor’s office. However, the case was discontinued.
“I have the impression that the fragments that cannot be quoted were even more drastic than what we heard here (the tapes revealing plans to kill the journalist – ed.),” the journalist said. He added that the threats appeared on his profile and that their author was “a fairly recognizable blogger.” – “I didn’t show this to my wife, because it was simply terrifying,” Sakiewicz confessed.
Dangerous situations
The network’s CEO added that later there was a series of threats combined with vulgar language directed at the station’s journalists, including Danuta Holecka, Michał Rachoń, Janusz Życzkowski and Tomasz Duklanowski. – “Yesterday I received a letter from the prosecutor’s office about the discontinuation. The prosecutor’s office recognized (those threats – ed.) – I remember this fragment – as ‘an expansion of the debate,’” Sakiewicz said.
Commenting on the recorded words of the SOP officer, in which he considers in detail a beating resulting in death and disposing of journalist Piotr Nisztor’s body, Sakiewicz assessed that this shows the image of a person “with psychopathic tendencies.” He added that what is disturbing is that such a person has a weapon, access to surveillance tools, and works in the services.
Sakiewicz announced that straight after the program he would go to the prosecutor’s office to file a report on the possibility of a crime in connection with the threats against investigative journalist Piotr Nisztor. They allegedly include a planned murder and attempts to intimidate the journalist.
