SOP Officer’s Violent Threats Against Journalist Nisztor Spark Questions Over Oversight and Procedures

“The very fact that an officer is attempting to formulate threats or a vision of revenge against a journalist raises questions as to whether this is the right person to serve in the State Protection Service (SOP). It raises questions about vetting procedures and about political oversight,” said PiS MP Radosław Fogiel on TV Republika. He was commenting on the case, revealed by the station, of threats directed at journalist Piotr Nisztor.

During the program “W punkt” on TV Republika, shocking recordings were disclosed. The case concerns Lt. Col. Wojciech B., alias “Biszkopt,” who is responsible for the security of the most important individuals in the state, including, currently, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

According to materials revealed by the station, the SOP officer, in a conversation recorded in February 2024 (after the swearing-in of the December 13 coalition government), outlined plans for brutal revenge against journalist Piotr Nisztor for his investigative publications.

In the recordings, Wojciech B. threatens Piotr Nisztor with beating, torture, dousing his body with fuel after death, and killing two dogs.

The officer has been suspended, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him. A notification of a suspected crime has been filed with the prosecutor’s office.

“This raises questions about procedures”

The matter was discussed on the program “Gość Dzisiaj” on TV Republika. According to PiS MP Radosław Fogiel, who was present in the studio, the entire situation is “shocking” and requires a response from those overseeing the SOP.

“The fact that an officer of this kind attempts to formulate threats, announcements, aggression, or some vision of revenge toward a journalist raises questions as to whether this is the right person for the State Protection Service. It raises questions about vetting procedures and political oversight,”

he said.

In his view, the issue should be considered more broadly, while separating it from officers who perform their duties flawlessly. He also noted that “we are dealing with a black series of events.”

“First, there was the tragedy that occurred in Ustka, now this. This raises questions about political oversight, procedures, and whether psychological evaluations are actually being conducted or, God forbid, merely ticked off on paper,”

he added.

“We do not know how it is. Perhaps there is some internal arrangement that, for example, things are only checked off on paper. It is hard to say. But the political responsibility for this lies with the Minister of the Interior, and we would expect a response from him,”

he concluded.
