Special Representative for Historical Diplomacy. Professor Berendt appointed as Ambassador

President Karol Nawrocki has appointed Associate Professor Grzegorz Berendt as Ambassador – Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Poland for Historical Diplomacy, according to a statement from the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.

The appointment ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace. Associate Professor Grzegorz Berendt was appointed as Ambassador – Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki for Historical Diplomacy.

The professor is a historian by education. From 2008 to 2013, he served as head of the Bureau of Public Education of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) branch in Gdańsk. Between 2017 and 2021, he was deputy director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, and from 2022 to 2024, he served as acting director of the institution. Grzegorz Berendt is a member of, among others, the Polish Historical Society, the Kashubian Institute, and the Gdańsk Scientific Society. He is also a reserve officer of the Polish Army.
