Storm Herminia Wreaks Havoc in Portugal, Leaving One Dead and Several Injured

Storm Herminia ravages Portugal, causing one death and four injuries. High winds, flooding, and 10-meter waves disrupt transport and paralyze ports.

Storm Herminia has caused widespread destruction across Portugal, leaving one man dead and four others injured. The victim drowned on Sunday near a beach in Povoa de Varzim, located in the country’s northwest. Additionally, four individuals were injured when their boat capsized in the Tagus River delta near Lisbon. The storm, which began on Saturday, has brought hurricane-force winds, resulting in hundreds of flood incidents, fallen trees, and damaged metal structures, severely disrupting road transport and daily life.

Continued Danger and Warnings

Authorities are warning of ongoing risks as the storm persists. The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts ocean waves could reach up to 10 meters on Monday, particularly affecting ports in the northwest. Landslides have also been reported in several areas due to waterlogged soil, further complicating the situation. With extensive damage and dangerous conditions, recovery efforts are underway, but the storm’s effects are expected to linger.
