Questions about the unusual connections of Włodzimierz Czarzasty—which lead toward the Kremlin—have not subsided. The Speaker of the Sejm, however, has been carefully avoiding answers. On Thursday, in the corridors of parliament, he reacted in a rather unusual way.
As established by the news portal Niezalezna.pl, Czarzasty has for years sat on the board of a foundation headed by Marian Kubalica, who publicly praises Vladimir Putin and echoes pro-Russian propaganda. Kubalica, a former associate of the Left politician from the “Ordynacka,” shares materials from Russia’s Foreign Ministry and its embassy, and insults Andrzej Poczobut, who is imprisoned by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Meanwhile, Gazeta Polska described contacts between Czarzasty and his wife and a Russian national dealing in works of art, linked to an auction house connected to a large Russian bank controlled by the Kremlin.
The Left politician was asked about these findings on Tuesday in the Sejm by Wojciech Szymczyk of Telewizja Republika.
“You know what the situation is. You know how it is. I’ve been with you for two years…” Czarzasty said, while at the same time attempting to hug the journalist.
After editor Szymczyk reacted to the embraces, Czarzasty replied that he liked him very much and would like to “talk warmly” with him.
The journalist pressed on: “Why don’t you fill out the security questionnaire?”
The Speaker then replied that for two years he has not given interviews to Republika and accused the station of lying. But that was not the end of the strange situation. Czarzasty invited the journalist into his office, but did not want to let the cameraman in.
