Iga Swiatek will compete in the fourth round of Indian Wells as a result of her victory over Bianca Andreescu of Canada with a score of 6:3, 7:6.
Despite the considerable difference in the WTA ranking, the match was evenly matched from the start. The Canadian broke Swiatek already in the first game, but she lost the advantage in the next game.
Despite the large difference in the WTA rankings, the match was a close one right from the outset. The Canadian player was able to gain the initial advantage by breaking Swiatek’s serve in the first game, but she was unable to maintain it in the next.
The world’s top tennis player was the star of the first game, with the sixth game proving to be the decisive turning point. The Pole broke for a second time and gained a two-game lead. Their opponent was unable to recover, and after 53 minutes the score was 1-0 in the set.
The next one was not at all easier. Although it started promisingly with a breakthrough, Andreescu then returned to her good game and dominated the court.
Unsurprisingly, then Iga’s weak moment happened again and the fate of the second set was decided in a tie-break. There was not much excitement in the tie-break, as the Canadian was not able to stand up to the speeding Pole. In the end, she ended up winning in two hours and eight minutes.
Swiatek’s next opponent will be Emma Raducanu.
