Talks on Ukraine, Polish Government Sidelined. Bielan: “It’s humiliating”

“Prime Minister Donald Tusk boasts about Poland’s excellent position in Europe, Radosław Sikorski boasts that he enjoys an excellent position as foreign minister, and when it comes down to it, the leaders of four countries meet: Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom. Poland is absent,” said PiS MEP Adam Bielan, referring to the absence of Polish government representatives during the talks in Geneva on a peace plan for Ukraine.

On Sunday, talks on the US peace plan for Ukraine were held in Geneva. In addition to the American and Ukrainian delegations, representatives of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom also took part.

The talks were assessed as “extremely fruitful”, and they are expected to lead to an updated peace agreement aimed at ending the war with Russia. Consultations will continue today. Unfortunately, there was no place for representatives of the Polish government.

“It’s humiliating”

The situation was commented on by PiS MEP Adam Bielan. Poland is absent,” he stated on Polsat News.

He recalled that in May this year, the Polish prime minister travelled to the capital of Ukraine in a different train carriage than the other European leaders. “When there is a visit to Kyiv and Tusk goes there, because it’s difficult for him not to go if the train departs from Poland, Tusk is directed to a second-class carriage,” he said.

Bielan also referred to the announcement that Tusk is to present the Polish point of view during the meeting of EU leaders within the European Union – African Union Summit (UE-UA). The talks will take place in Luanda, Angola.

“This is humiliating,” stated the PiS MEP.

He noted that the summit in question will be “devoted to an entirely different topic”.

“The peace talks on Ukraine were held yesterday and are continuing today in Geneva,” he pointed out.

“Trump knows Poland’s views very well”

When asked why, regarding the peace plan for Ukraine, US President Donald Trump contacted the president of Finland and the prime minister of Italy, but not the Polish president, Bielan replied that the US leader “knows very well Poland’s views and the views of the Polish president on how the conflict and the issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine can be resolved”.

“That was the lion’s share of the bilateral conversation on 3 September at the White House. So there is no need for the two presidents to call each other every week,” he stated.

He stressed that, to his knowledge, the advisers to President Nawrocki are in constant contact with Trump’s advisers.
