Targeted but Unbroken: Nawrocki Defies Media and Intelligence Attacks

A covert operation by intelligence services, bolstered by media outlets sympathetic to the current government, collided with the unyielding integrity of Karol Nawrocki. The civic candidate, who became the target of attacks after purchasing a modest studio apartment from an elderly man, not only refused to yield under the pressure of the smear campaign but responded with a gesture that silenced his slanderers.

In the television program “Guest Today” hosted by Danuta Holecka, the issue was discussed by politicians—both those supporting Nawrocki and those attempting to exploit the controversy for their own political gain.

Andruszkiewicz Does Not Beat Around the Bush

Adam Andruszkiewicz, a Member of Parliament for Law and Justice (PiS) and a member of Karol Nawrocki’s campaign team, directly identified the political roots of the campaign against the civic candidate. In his view, it was a coordinated effort involving intelligence services and the media, aimed at discrediting a credible representative of the patriotic camp.

“We have managed to completely break this insidious attack by the system on Karol Nawrocki. (…) With today’s decision, Karol Nawrocki has put an end to the matter. It was repugnant to me that individuals like Mr. Kropiwnicki, who owns twelve apartments, positioned themselves as moral authorities,”

the MP stated.

Andruszkiewicz drew attention to the probable source of the information being used against Nawrocki.

“In my opinion, much of the information now surfacing and being used originates from security clearance questionnaires. (…) So, pardon me, but how did the media obtain this information? What we are witnessing is an operation by intelligence services and media outlets with German capital,”

he concluded.

The Enemy Is in the Prime Minister’s Office

According to Andruszkiewicz, the intensity of the attacks demonstrates that the ruling establishment is acutely aware of the importance of these elections and will do everything possible to avoid defeat. A loss for Rafał Trzaskowski would spell the downfall of the government and the entire political structure behind it.

“The ruling establishment understands just how significant these elections are. (…) They will employ every dirty tactic to prevent defeat. (…) They’ve gone so far that their venom has backfired,”

he said.

He also emphasized that candidates with patriotic views should not fight each other.

“It is the Polish people who will decide which candidate enters the second round. In my view, that will be Karol Nawrocki. The candidate who must win is the one fighting against Trzaskowski’s system. (…) I see the enemy in the Prime Minister’s Office. There is no enemy on the right,”

he asserted.

Confederation Plays for Itself

A markedly different strategy was adopted by Confederation MP Witold Tumanowicz, who—despite declaring opposition to Rafał Trzaskowski—did not support Karol Nawrocki during the attacks against him. Instead, he promotes his own party’s candidate, Sławomir Mentzen, who recently joined the chorus of government-affiliated critics of Nawrocki.

“One should vote against Rafał Trzaskowski. (…) I must admit that precisely because this is a battle for Poland, the person who has the best chance of winning is Sławomir Mentzen. (…) He would have the greatest chance of defeating Rafał Trzaskowski in the second round,”

said Tumanowicz, implying that Law and Justice should withdraw their candidate and support Mentzen.
