In a dramatic turn of events following a funeral service in Gorzów Wielkopolski, police detained an 83-year-old man after he intervened in the traffic stop of a priest. The incident unfolded when officers stopped the priest for a routine sobriety check after the ceremony, only to find him sober. However, the clergyman was fined 200 zł for not having a fire extinguisher in his car.

The situation escalated when the elderly man, distressed by the police action, approached the officers in defense of the priest. Reportedly, he offered a sarcastic remark, tossing 10 zł to the officers, telling them to “buy a beer.” A scuffle ensued when the man refused to show his identification, and tensions heightened, with five police cars arriving at the scene.

Eyewitnesses described the altercation as shocking, with bystanders pleading with the officers to show leniency due to the man’s age and health. His wife implored the police to release him, citing his poor vision and frail condition.
