Thailand to Host 2025 Women’s Volleyball World Championship Amid Major Format Changes

Thailand has been confirmed as the host for the 2025 Women’s Volleyball World Championship, scheduled from August 22 to September 7, 2025. This global event will feature top teams, including Poland, currently ranked sixth in the world by the FIVB. Thailand’s selection, after a competitive bidding process involving Indonesia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong, highlights the country’s rising status as a premier location for international volleyball, following its successful hosting of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League finals in Bangkok.

The 2025 championship marks a significant shift in the tournament’s format, moving from a four-year to a two-year cycle and expanding the number of participating teams from 24 to 32. This edition will bridge the gap since the last championship held in 2022 in Poland and the Netherlands, with Serbia returning to defend their title. The expanded format and the presence of additional strong teams promise an intense competition.

Several teams, including the host Thailand, defending champions Serbia, and other continental powerhouses like Brazil and the United States, have already secured their places in the tournament. With the final FIVB rankings yet to be confirmed, more teams are expected to qualify. The event is set to be a thrilling showcase of the world’s top volleyball talent, leading into the men’s championship in the Philippines later in September.
