The 75th Frankfurt International Book Fair Kicks Off with a Strong Polish Presence

The 75th edition of the Frankfurt International Book Fair, the world’s premier event of its kind, commences today under the theme “And the story goes on.” The jubilee celebration features primarily a trade-oriented character, attracting around 4,000 exhibitors from across the globe. The first two days are dedicated to industry professionals, while the weekend offers a wealth of events for readers.

Poland, represented by the Institute of Books, presents an expansive 200-square-meter booth in Hall 4.1. It showcases books from the “New Books from Poland 2023” catalog and hosts the launch of the “Polish Book Market” report, providing valuable insights into the domestic book industry.

Foreign publishers also gain insight into Polish grant programs, including the flagship Translators ©Poland Program, aimed at promoting Polish literature worldwide through financial support for translations into foreign languages. To date, over 3,000 translations of Polish books into foreign languages have received funding through the ©Poland Program.

The Institute of Books has arranged three meetings with Polish authors. Two of them will feature Witold Szabłkowski and his book “Rosja od kuchni” (“Die Köche es Kreml”), taking place on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 in Buchmesse Halle 3.1. Additionally, a promotional event for the book “Marek Kamiński. Jak zdobyć bieguny Ziemi” (“Eis!: Nordpol und Südpol in einem Jahr”), nominated for the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2023, will be held on Saturday at 13:00 in Frankfurt Studio – Public Events, Hall 4.0.

Poland’s collective booth features a record 47 exhibitors from the publishing industry, including prominent names like GW Foksal, Wydawnictwo Dwie Siostry, and Wydawnictwo Agora. The honored guest of this year’s event is Slovenia. The fair concludes on Sunday.
