The Bodnar Housing Scandal: “If Anyone Gets Prosecuted, It Will Be Those Who Exposed It”

The circle surrounding Justice Minister Adam Bodnar is expected to rush to his defense. According to PiS MP Piotr Kaleta, they will target those who uncovered the scandal, accusing the TV Republika channel of inciting hatred against the government and demanding its license be revoked. “The only thing I expect is for Bodnar to uphold the law — unfortunately, only as he personally interprets it,” Kaleta told Niezależna.pl, commenting on new findings by TV Republika regarding Bodnar’s undeclared apartment.

According to investigative journalists from Republika, Adam and Karolina Bodnar — in addition to the house listed in the minister’s asset declaration — also own a 112-square-meter apartment on Wąwozowa Street in Warsaw. However, this property was not disclosed in Bodnar’s official statement. The justice minister claims the apartment no longer belongs to him, but rather to his ex-wife.

“Republika reports that Adam Bodnar failed to declare an apartment in Warsaw. Time to resign!” wrote PiS MP Dariusz Matecki on social media.

Asked for comment by Niezależna.pl, MP Piotr Kaleta offered a sharp critique.

“I expect only one thing: that Minister Bodnar will stick to the law — the way he sees it. Which means that if anyone ends up being prosecuted in this case, it’ll be those who brought it to light. I don’t expect any other kind of introspection,” Kaleta said.

He also issued a public appeal to Bodnar: “Assuming this was an honest mistake in his asset declaration, if he has even a shred of honor and decency, he should do what Dr. Karol Nawrocki did — donate the apartment for a public cause. For example, to an organization supporting people who have been politically persecuted by the state.”

Kaleta believes that Bodnar’s allies will now move to shield him from scrutiny.

“This narrative won’t change. Just like in the case of the Myrcha couple, they’ll double down. They’ll attack those who exposed the scandal and push for Republica’s license to be revoked, claiming the station is inciting hatred toward the authorities,” he concluded.
