“There is obviously no designated critical infrastructure, no official regulations — it’s clearly a fiction,” declared Robert Bąkiewicz, founder of the Border Defense Movement, as he reestablished the activists’ outpost on the bridge in Słubice. The day before, the border defenders had been removed from the site and ordered to comply with guidelines related to critical infrastructure. Not long after their removal… a sports event was held at the same location.
On Wednesday, the inaugural meeting of the parliamentary group “Border Defense Movement” was held. Among the speakers was Robert Bąkiewicz, the initiator of the border crossing protests. He described what he called a scandalous situation in Słubice, where activists of the movement had been removed from their post.
According to the activists, officers told them the bridge they were stationed on belonged to Germany. They were also ordered to move 500 meters away from the patrol site — allegedly because the area had been designated as critical infrastructure. Interestingly, on the same day — as reported by Janusz Życzkowski, a journalist from Telewizja Republika — a sporting event was held at that very location.
On Thursday, Bąkiewicz announced that the activists were returning to their post. “This is where our colleagues were removed from the bridge yesterday, where a running event was held. Obviously, there’s no marked critical infrastructure, no regulations — this is clearly fiction,” he said in a video published online.
“My colleague is putting back up the banners that were removed yesterday by the pro-German deputy mayor of Słubice, who showed up with German documents and claimed that the bridge is under German jurisdiction. We are not giving up. We are here, we’re watching. We are acting for Poland,” he added.
