The eve of August 1st: Solemn Roll Call of the Fallen

Yesterday, Warsaw residents gathered at Krasinski Square for the traditional Roll Call of the Fallen, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. The ceremony began with a field mass at the Warsaw Uprising Monument.

Polish President Andrzej Duda and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier attended the event. President Duda highlighted the significance of the uprising, stating, “We are here for the fight, the sacrifices, and the unwavering spirit of those who gave everything.”

    Echoes of History

Duda recalled the words of the late President Lech Kaczyński, who emphasized the uprising as the moral foundation of Poland’s independence. Duda drew parallels to the current resistance in Ukraine, underscoring the lasting importance of the uprising’s legacy.

    A Call to Remember

From the monument, President Duda declared, “Honor and glory to the heroes, eternal memory to the fallen. Long live free, sovereign, independent Poland!”
