Donald Tusk’s government is a government of national amnesia, stated Karol Nawrocki, an independent candidate for the President of Poland, in an interview with TV Republika, referring to the authorities’ absence from the celebrations of the 1000th anniversary of Poland’s coronation. He emphasized that this is not the first time the society has had to take on the duties of the state.
On April 18, 1025, the first King of Poland, Bolesław the Brave, was crowned, and on April 10, 1525, the Prussian Homage took place. To mark these two significant anniversaries, a Great March was organized, which will take place on April 12 in the streets of Warsaw.
The event is organized by the Committee for Social Initiatives for the celebrations, led by Professor Andrzej Nowak, Marshal Marek Jurek, and Patryk Jaki. The media patronage for the celebrations includes Niezależna.pl and TV Republika.
Reporter Michał Gwardyński from Telewizja Republika asked march participants where the Polish state is on such an important occasion. One of the responses came from Karol Nawrocki, the civic candidate for the President of Poland.
“As the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, I must say it’s astonishing that the Polish state administration, headed by Donald Tusk, does not recognize the 1000th anniversary of the Polish Crown as something important and valuable for contemporary Poland. I think the journalist should ask Donald Tusk where he is today, when we celebrate a thousand years of attachment to our tradition, our freedom, and our sovereignty. It’s a disgrace for Prime Minister Donald Tusk that, as Prime Minister, he didn’t organize such celebrations, and the fact that he is not here… maybe it’s telling,” he said.
Gwardyński pointed out that this is not the first time that the social factor has taken control of honoring Polish heroes. “It was also the case in 2011-2015,” he added.
“I’ll say more, Mr. Editor. The social factor is defending the Polish border in the west. Today we live in a state of inertia under Donald Tusk. It’s the civil society that fulfills the role of the Polish state on the Polish border. It’s civil society, as we can see, that cares about the 1000 years of the Polish Crown. It’s civil society that revived the memory of the soldiers of the anti-communist underground. Donald Tusk’s government is a government of national amnesia,” Nawrocki concluded.
Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Law and Justice, also commented on the matter. “The state simply does not exist. There is no government,” he assessed.
