At around 9:30 p.m. Polish time, a meeting began at the Elmendorf–Richardson military base in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, accompanied by their closest advisers. Both sides declined to offer any comments to the media.
The two leaders sat against a backdrop reading “Pursuing peace,” but — contrary to custom — delivered no opening statements and did not respond to questions shouted by journalists.
They arrived together in the U.S. presidential limousine, known as “the Beast.”
At this first meeting at the Elmendorf–Richardson base in Alaska, the leaders were joined by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Putin’s international affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov. Interpreters were also present.
