The Sejm Lifts Ziobro’s Immunity. The Politician Does Not Retract a Word About Korneluk. “He Is a Criminal”

Zbigniew Ziobro does not intend to withdraw his statements about Dariusz Korneluk. On the day of the parliamentary vote on lifting his immunity, the former Minister of Justice once again sharply criticized the National Prosecutor, announcing that in the future he himself would seek to hold him accountable. “The passage of time has confirmed the accuracy of my assessment of Korneluk’s ‘appointment’. Everyone has seen the scandalous discontinuations of the Polnord affair with the thieving role of Roman Giertych, the bribery of Sławomir Nowak, or the corruption of Marshal Tomasz Grodzki. And everyone can see the fabricated proceedings against opposition politicians, including myself,” Ziobro wrote on X.

The Sejm voted on Friday to lift the immunity of Zbigniew Ziobro. A total of 238 MPs voted in favor of allowing the former Minister of Justice to be held criminally liable, while 198 voted against. A total of 436 parliamentarians took part in the vote, with none abstaining.

The decision of the chamber is related to a private indictment filed by National Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk. The case concerns statements made by Ziobro in December 2025 during a Law and Justice (PiS) press conference broadcast from Hungary. Korneluk deemed the former head of the Ministry of Justice’s remarks defamatory and filed a private indictment against him. Earlier, the lifting of immunity had been recommended by the Sejm’s Rules, Deputies’ Affairs and Immunities Committee.

The Statements Were Made in 2025. Korneluk Seeks Revenge

The case is linked to Ziobro’s remarks from December 2025, delivered during a Law and Justice (PiS) press conference broadcast from Hungary. At the time, the politician accused Donald Tusk of appointing a “party activist” to the position of National Prosecutor, and also said:

“This is how one can describe the role of Mr. Korneluk, whose task was to steer proceedings – on the one hand toward discontinuing real theft and corruption, of which there was plenty in Donald Tusk’s circle, and on the other hand toward initiating proceedings, often with no basis in law or facts, directed against opponents of the opposition.”

It was precisely this statement that became the basis for the private indictment. Korneluk is demanding, among other things, an apology, a payment of PLN 30,000 to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, and a one-year prison sentence suspended for three years.

Ziobro on Korneluk: A Demoralized Activist, Essentially a Criminal

This morning, even before the Sejm vote, the former Minister of Justice published a post on social media devoted to Korneluk.

“The usurper Dariusz Korneluk, who is illegally occupying the office of National Prosecutor, took offense at being called a party activist. In December 2025, I said that Tusk, instead of the lawful National Prosecutor Dariusz Barski, decided illegally – by means of a crime – to place Korneluk in that position. I said that Korneluk’s task amounts to the role of a party activist. ‘His task is to steer proceedings – on the one hand toward discontinuing real theft and corruption in Prime Minister Tusk’s circle, and on the other hand toward initiating proceedings often with no basis in law or facts, directed against political opponents,’” Ziobro wrote on X.

As he admitted – “my statement was extremely restrained. Because Korneluk is a demoralized activist, essentially a criminal. With that reservation, I fully uphold that statement.”

And everyone can see the fabricated proceedings against opposition politicians, including myself. Now also against journalists inconvenient for this government,” the politician added.

He concluded the post: “These are facts. They fully confirm the accuracy of my earlier assessment. They will form the basis for holding Korneluk criminally accountable. And that will happen soon.”
