The Sejm of the Republic of Poland on the defence of the State Forests

    Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

On Friday evening, 7 July, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland will take up a civic initiative in defence of the State Forests, prepared with the support of Sovereign Poland. Half a million signatures were collected under it over a week’s time. “We will defend the State Forests against the Eurocrats and their exposition in Poland.”, emphasises Michał Woś, Deputy Minister of Justice.

The civic initiative ‘In defence of the State Forests’

The civic initiative to protect State Forests is a response to worrying plans coming from institutions in Brussels.

In January this year, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety gave a favourable opinion on a change to the Treaties that would shift responsibility for forestry from national authorities to a so-called shared competence between the EU and Member States. Making such a change to the treaties requires the unanimous agreement of all EU member states.

The proposed law envisages a ban on EU solutions and guarantees that the State Forests will be managed by Polish institutions, thus preventing their privatisation.

In addition, the law is to ensure access to all forest areas.
