During his visit to the United States, President Karol Nawrocki answered journalists’ questions, summarizing his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. The Polish president emphasized the importance of the talks for Polish-American relations and assured that cooperation would continue.
President Karol Nawrocki, who has been in the U.S. since Saturday, took part on Sunday in the general debate of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Yesterday, Nawrocki stressed that his activities in New York are not yet over. “I am not ending my activities in New York. Everything I do, I do with Poland and the Polish people in mind,” the Polish president declared during a press conference.
During his meeting with the American leader, Nawrocki referred to President Trump’s recent speech, which, as he pointed out, “attracted the attention of public opinion around the world.”
“I told President Trump that it was an excellent speech,” said Nawrocki.
Trump: “The USA stands with Poland”
According to President Nawrocki, the American leader referred during their conversation to the situation in Poland and Central Europe. “President Trump spoke about the situation in Poland, in Central Europe. He told me that the USA stands with Poland,” the Polish president quoted Trump as saying.
Nawrocki also stressed that he remains in constant contact with the American president, which he said demonstrates the intensification of relations at the highest state level. “President Trump takes into account the views of Poland, of the Polish people, and of the Polish president,” Nawrocki stated, highlighting Poland’s growing importance in U.S. foreign policy.
The Polish president also referred to Trump’s public remarks regarding Russian aggression. “Yesterday, there was a moment when President Trump publicly shared his vision of what is happening as a result of the aggression of the Russian Federation,” he said.
Declaration on the defense of Poland’s borders
President Nawrocki used the occasion to make an unequivocal declaration regarding Poland’s security. “As long as I am president, I will unambiguously strive to defend Poland’s borders and its airspace,” he assured.
“I believe in the Polish soldier, and I also believe in our allies from the North Atlantic Alliance,” he added, underlining the importance of cooperation within NATO.
