There Is a European Arrest Warrant for Marcin Romanowski. Decision by the Regional Court

“We inform that by a decision of 17 February 2026, the Regional Court in Warsaw granted the motion of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw and issued a European Arrest Warrant against Marcin Romanowski” – the Regional Court announced in an official statement.

Marcin Romanowski, who is currently staying in Hungary, responded to the court’s decision on social media.

“The organized criminal group of Tusk and Żurek in the prosecutor’s office and at the Regional Court in Warsaw continues its criminal activity. Of course, there will be a notification of suspected crime: a renewed EAW based on the same evidence and circumstances, in the reality of open political repression and manipulation of the adjudicating panel – this is obvious lawlessness and a crime under Article 231,” wrote Romanowski.

In December 2025, the Regional Court in Warsaw revoked the European Arrest Warrant previously issued against Marcin Romanowski in the investigation concerning the Justice Fund.

In response, Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek announced that a new motion for the warrant would be filed and that a request would be submitted to exclude Judge Dariusz Łubowski, who in the ruling revoking the EAW described the actions of the governing coalition as a “crypto-dictatorship”.

Judge Łubowski was indeed removed from the case. As attorney Bartosz Lewandowski indicated, when considering the prosecutor’s motion to issue the EAW for Romanowski, the random assignment of a judge was abandoned. Although initially the duty judge, in accordance with the schedule of the Regional Court in Warsaw, was to handle the case, unexpected changes were suddenly introduced. The decision in this matter was made by Judge Magdalena Wójcik, Chair of the 8th Criminal Division of the Regional Court in Warsaw. Today, the decision to pursue the Law and Justice (PiS) MP with a European Arrest Warrant was issued by Judge Izabela Ledzion.

A month ago, TV Republika revealed that the EAW case concerning Romanowski was initially to be assigned to Judge Alina Sobczak-Barańska, but the schedule was changed. Ultimately, Judge Ledzion was to adjudicate the case. As Lewandowski pointed out, she had supported initiatives of the Judges’ Association Iustitia that were critical of the leadership of the Ministry of Justice during the tenure of Zbigniew Ziobro.
