The Lawyers for Poland Association prepared its sixth report on the threats to the rule of law in Poland. The document was to be presented in the European Parliament. However, as it turned out, upon learning of this, Brussels officials withdrew the invitation for the association’s representatives.
“Last Wednesday, on 29 October 2025, the European Parliament withdrew invitations for Supreme Court judges – Prof. Paweł Czubik and Prof. Kamil Zaradkiewicz. This decision was made after it turned out that Prof. Paweł Czubik, a board member of the Lawyers for Poland Association, planned to present during the conference our report documenting the unlawful actions of the alleged Minister of Justice, Waldemar Żurek,” the association announced on social media.
The post emphasized that the document will still reach the European Parliament and will be available on the association’s website on Monday. “In times when Brussels considers only what is convenient for the EU elites to be ‘European values,’ our report becomes a test of true freedom of speech in the European Union. It turns out that for some Eurocrats, the principle of freedom of expression ends where honest criticism of political favorites in Warsaw begins,” declared the Lawyers for Poland Association.
“Today, when official government media create a distorted image of reality, and public opinion – both domestically and abroad – is systematically misinformed by centers subordinate to the current ruling coalition […], our duty as lawyers is to document facts and expose falsehoods,” the post stressed.
“Typical Soviet-style”
Judge Zaradkiewicz also commented on the decision to withdraw the invitation to the conference in Brussels. “This is the famous rule of law and freedom of academic debate supposedly valued by our opponents, but in reality it is mere cowardice and fear of having to confront counterarguments,” he wrote on platform X.
“Typical Soviet-style,” he concluded.
