“They are destroying Poland, taking away our freedom, and stealing the future from our children. Later it will be too late,” emphasizes Robert Bąkiewicz, calling on people to attend today’s protest against the EU’s SAFE mechanism. The event will take place at 5:00 PM in front of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM).
On Friday in Warsaw, a loan agreement under the SAFE program is scheduled to be signed. It concerns an EU loan taken for 45 years in a foreign currency. Moreover, the funds will be disbursed to Poland (or withheld) according to the conditionality mechanism known from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). The agreement is set to be signed despite the veto by President Karol Nawrocki.
Patriotic circles strongly oppose the government’s decision. A protest against the agreement will be held on Thursday in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. The organizers are the Gazeta Polska Clubs and the Border Defense Movement (Ruch Obrony Granic – ROG).
“We will not allow Tusk’s betrayal. Tusk will pay the price for this; he will stand before the State Tribunal. He will appear, along with those other people, before an independent court, which, I hope, will judge him appropriately for betraying Poland,”
said Robert Bąkiewicz, head of ROG, in a recording released on Wednesday.
As he stressed, “SAFE is betrayal.” “The money, this debt we are about to take on, is a noose around Poland’s neck. The conditionality system, the unstable interest rate on this loan, and the requirement to make purchases that will clearly force us to buy from Germany, these are the realities,” he pointed out.
“Today at 5:00 PM we will gather in front of the KPRM in Warsaw, on Ujazdowskie Avenue […] Come there, for God’s sake, because they are plundering our Poland. They are destroying our country, taking away our freedom, and stealing the future from our children. Later, it will be too late. Come and let us protest together against this treacherous policy,”
he appealed.
