In an end to Poland’s Euro 2024 journey, the Polish national football team drew 1-1 with World Cup runners-up France. Kylian Mbappe scored from the penalty spot, only for Robert Lewandowski to equalize with a penalty of his own.
The Poles entered the match in Dortmund having already lost their chance to advance after defeats to the Netherlands and Austria. Head coach Michał Probierz used this match as an opportunity to start preparations for the upcoming Nations League matches, making several lineup changes.
Poland began the game promisingly, maintaining possession and creating attacks, with 19-year-old Kacper Urbański standing out. France also had their chances, mainly through Ousmane Dembele, but Skorupski’s impressive performance kept them at bay. Lewandowski came close to scoring, but his shot was deflected just wide.
The second half saw Mbappe eager to score, but Skorupski was up to the task. However, a penalty was awarded to France when Jakub Kiwior fouled Dembele, and Mbappe converted. Poland responded with a penalty of their own after Karol Świderski was fouled. Lewandowski missed his first attempt but scored on the retake due to a goalkeeper error. Poland ended their Euro 2024 campaign on a high note, while Austria unexpectedly secured the top spot in Group D.
