Polish-Swedish relations will dominate the coming days during meetings in Warsaw and Gdańsk. A large delegation is accompanying the royal couple, who began their official visit at the Presidential Palace with a meeting with the President of Poland Karol Nawrocki and his wife. The main topic of the talks will be the Baltic Sea – its security and its role as a region of economic cooperation.
The Swedish royal couple is paying an official visit to Poland. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have arrived in the country for the third time. Their previous bilateral talks with the highest representatives of the Polish state took place in 1993 and 2011.
Over the course of three days, meetings will be held in Warsaw and Gdańsk. The delegation accompanying the royal couple includes around 60 Swedish entrepreneurs as well as representatives of scientific institutions and technical universities. The most important members of the Swedish government are also part of the royal delegation. The first day of the visit will focus on official meetings. The second day will be devoted to discussions on security and the defense industry. On the third day, the royal couple will travel to the Tri-City area.
The Baltic Sea Is Key
“This is a historic visit that confirms our mutual relations. The Swedish delegation is very large, which reflects the nature of our ties. We devoted a lot of time to discussing the Baltic Sea and its security. The formats in which we cooperate show that we focus on the same issues,” said the President of Poland Karol Nawrocki, who together with First Lady Marta Nawrocka welcomed the guests at the Presidential Palace.
The president emphasized the importance of the Baltic Sea, describing the region as a place that on the one hand faces hybrid warfare and attacks from Russia, but also “still holds great economic and business potential between Poland and Sweden.”
On this occasion, he also mentioned a contract for the purchase of three Swedish submarines for the Polish Navy.
In the coming days, a series of Polish-Swedish business events will take place in Warsaw and the Tri-City area with the participation of representatives of companies from both countries – both large corporations such as Saab, Volvo, Swedbank and AstraZeneca, as well as smaller, recently established companies, including those offering solutions useful for civil defense systems. The plans also include visits by the Swedish delegation to Orlen and the WB Group.
President Nawrocki pointed out that more than 70 Swedish companies operate in Poland, having invested over €5.5 billion and employing more than 100,000 people. According to a report by the Swedish embassy from two years ago, 0.5 percent of Poland’s GDP is generated directly by Swedish companies operating in the country.
