Trump Flips the Table! USA to Increase Coal Production

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring coal a “critical mineral” and announced a series of other actions aimed at rolling back environmental regulations, increasing coal mining, and preventing mine closures.

“Today, we are taking historic action to help American workers, miners, families, and consumers. Once and for all, we are ending Joe Biden’s war on beautiful, clean coal (…) and putting our miners back to work,” Trump declared during a ceremony signing new executive orders to support the coal industry.

In a speech delivered at the White House, with miners in work uniforms standing behind him, Trump argued that the value of unmined coal in the U.S. is 100 times greater than all the gold in Fort Knox. He vowed to “crush” environmental regulations restricting coal mining, which he claimed would save 66 mines from closure. He also insisted that the coal industry has been unfairly discriminated against, even though miners love their jobs and wouldn’t give them up—even if they had the chance to live in a New York apartment and work elsewhere.

Trump also signed an order directing the Secretary of Energy to potentially classify coal as a “critical mineral” and allowing increased coal production under the Defense Production Act—a law originally designed to boost the supply of materials essential for national defense.

Another executive order ends what he called “discriminatory” federal agency policies against coal mining, allowing new mines to open on federal lands. Trump also instructed the Justice Department to prosecute and combat “illegal” state-level regulations targeting fossil fuels.

These executive orders are part of a broader deregulatory push in the energy sector, aimed at increasing electricity production to meet surging demand—including the power needed for artificial intelligence development.
