Trump: I Will Lead the Peace Council for Gaza

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that, under his plan, he himself would head the Peace Council, an international body temporarily overseeing the administration of the Gaza Strip. He also declared that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair would be part of the council.

On Monday, a meeting took place in the United States between the U.S. President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Earlier, Donald Trump thanked the Israeli Prime Minister for agreeing to his peace plan. He added, however, that approval from Hamas was still required.

The U.S. President then provided details regarding arrangements for the Gaza Strip and maintaining the ceasefire there.

“To ensure the success of this undertaking, my plan envisions the creation of a new international oversight body, the Peace Council. We are calling it the Peace Council, a beautiful name. The Peace Council, which will be chaired, not at my own request, by the person you know as the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” the president announced.

Trump emphasized that leaders of Arab states, as well as Israel, had asked him to take on this role. He further added that other distinguished figures would join the Peace Council, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
