A Tennessee congressman, Andy Ogles, has introduced a proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution, aiming to allow former President Donald Trump to serve a third term. Ogles praised Trump as the only leader capable of reversing the nation’s decline and restoring its greatness.
Constitutional Amendment Proposal
The proposed amendment seeks to modify the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, which limits presidents to two terms. Under Ogles’ plan, a president could serve three terms, though not more than two consecutively. The congressman emphasized that this change would provide America with the bold leadership it desperately needs.
Reports suggest Trump jokingly mentioned serving a third term during discussions with Republican lawmakers. However, Ogles’ initiative highlights the enduring support Trump enjoys within his party. Previously, Ogles had proposed legislation to reignite Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland, underscoring his commitment to the “America First” agenda.
This amendment would require significant support to pass, needing approval by two-thirds of both houses of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of the states. The proposal reflects a broader debate on leadership and constitutional limits in today’s polarized political landscape.
