Tusk Met with Angry Chants from Football Fans During Lithuania-Poland Game

“At least the Lithuanian prime minister saw how Polish society treats a prime minister who has been destroying Poland for two years – including Polish sport,” said former Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek, commenting on the “heated” welcome given to Prime Minister Donald Tusk by fans during the Poland-Lithuania match in Kaunas.

On Sunday, the Polish national team defeated Lithuania 2:0 in a World Cup qualifying match. The crowd at the stadium in Kaunas was stirred not only by the football action but also by the presence of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The head of government was greeted with strong words. “Donald, you fool, the fans will topple your government,” chanted the supporters. Later, the slogans““F* Tusk”** and a banner reading “You are not, have never been, and will never be a fan of Poland’s national team” appeared. All this took place while Tusk was accompanied by Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.

“At least the Lithuanian prime minister saw…” The situation was commented on Monday by former Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek. “‘You have never been and will never be a fan of Poland’s national team’ and other such chants were indeed well heard by the prime minister – and rightly so, they reached his ears, and those of [Adam] Szłapka,” he said on TV Republika.

It’s hard to imagine there wasn’t some embarrassment, but at least the Lithuanian prime minister saw how Polish society treats a prime minister who has been destroying Poland for two years – including Polish sport. This wasn’t mainly about sport, but about the bigger picture of what has happened over nearly two years of Tusk’s government alone, which we also spoke about at our demonstration on Saturday,” he stated, referring to the rally at Castle Square that expressed opposition to admitting illegal migrants to Poland and to the EU-Mercosur agreement.

We are not exempt

The Law and Justice politician, referring to the same issue, emphasized that Poland is not exempt from the migration pact signed by Tusk’s government on the sixth or seventh day of its term, in December, just before Christmas 2023. “They signed that migration pact, and as Professor Krasnodębski – an expert on the matter – explained, there is no way for Tusk to free himself from it. Secondly, from the very beginning we have said, while opposing the migration pact entirely, that we are under constant migratory pressure due to the war in the East,” he said.

It’s true that within the migration pact there’s a provision that migration pressure could justify an exemption from mandatory relocation – for example, next year or the following one. If that happens, that’s very good, but Tusk should not lie that the migration pact doesn’t apply to us. It does, because Tusk signed it,” he stressed.
