Another summit aimed at bringing an end to the war in Ukraine will take place on Monday in London. Representatives of the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Ukraine will attend. For Poland under Donald Tusk’s leadership – once again – there is no place at the table. Instead of pushing for participation in crucial diplomatic talks, government officials… wrote posts on X.
On Saturday, U.S.–Ukrainian talks continued in Florida regarding a plan to end the war. The American side was represented by special envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, while the Ukrainian delegation included Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff, General Andriy Hnatov.
That same day, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that on Monday he would meet in London with the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ukraine – Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and President Volodymyr Zelensky – to discuss American efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. In short, it will be yet another summit aimed at bringing peace to Ukraine.
“We must continue to put pressure on Russia to force it to make peace. (…) Ukraine can count on our unwavering support. This is the meaning of the efforts we have undertaken within the coalition of the willing. We will continue these efforts together with the Americans to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, without which there will be no lasting peace. Because what happens in Ukraine also affects the security of the whole of Europe,” — Macron wrote on X.
Talks Again Without Poland
The United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Ukraine – these are the leaders who, according to Macron, will discuss peace beyond Poland’s eastern border.
Why, then, has Poland once again not been invited to the talks? A good question. Nevertheless, instead of making efforts to secure participation, both Donald Tusk – the head of the Polish government – and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski prefer… to publish posts on X. And ones that, remarkably, take aim at the United States.
The Polish Foreign Minister, responding to an Elon Musk post stating: “How long before the EU is gone? AbolishTheEU,” replied:
“Fly to Mars. There is no censorship of Nazi salutes there.”
And it is precisely these “methods of conducting international policy” by the government – the one that supposedly “no one in Europe would ever outplay” – that Paweł Jabłoński of Law and Justice highlighted.
“World-class diplomacy. They weren’t invited to the London summit – so at least they can show off on X. (And seriously – it is truly dramatic that these people are the ones deciding the future of our country today),” — wrote the former deputy foreign minister.
