Tusk Questions U.S. Loyalty to Poland. Ambassador Rose Responds

America is loyal to its allies. But we also ask whether our allies are as loyal to the United States as they expect us to be – said U.S. Ambassador Tom Rose in response to an interview with Donald Tusk, in which the Polish prime minister questioned the loyalty of the United States toward Poland.

Donald Tusk gave an interview to the “Financial Times”. In it, he questioned, among other things, the “loyalty” of Poland’s key ally – the United States.

Reaction of the U.S. Ambassador to Poland

These remarks were addressed by U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose.

“Prime Minister Donald Tusk raises a very serious and thoughtful question – and it deserves a serious and respectful answer” Rose began.

He recalled that for 80 years the United States has “guaranteed European security with blood, treasure, and presence”.

“Since the end of World War II, millions of Americans have served in Europe. Our taxpayers have spent over $13 trillion on its defense. This year, the United States will spend more than $100 billion on Europe’s defense. More than 100,000 American troops are stationed across Europe, including 9,000 in Poland,” the American diplomat emphasized.

He also noted that since the end of the Cold War, “no country has proven to be a stronger ally of America than Poland”. He added that no other country has benefited more from U.S. military support.

Rose assured that Donald Trump’s commitment to Poland is “unwavering and fully deserved”.
