TV Republika has published new recordings of conversations involving Civic Coalition MP Roman Giertych, triggering a flood of public reaction and widespread online commentary.
On Saturday, the network released the first part of the recordings. Roman Giertych is depicted as a key strategist within the Civic Coalition. The channel also aired what it refers to as the “Tusk tapes,” in which it is claimed that Giertych was the one who proposed Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska as the coalition’s presidential candidate. These recordings reportedly date back to 2019.
Yesterday, more recordings surfaced—including ones allegedly from 2025—again featuring Roman Giertych. He appears as a central figure in orchestrating political “accountability,” holding meetings with Leszek Czarnecki (implicated in the GetBack scandal) at a luxury hotel in Venice, and praising prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek for her investigation into the “two towers” affair just three weeks after Barbara Skrzypek’s death.
“Giertych Is Running This Country”
The newly released tapes are being cited as evidence that Giertych is exerting influence over the prosecution service. Critics argue that the so-called investigations are in fact politically motivated repressions. When Giertych refers to having “materials ready for charges,” he is allegedly speaking about case files protected by investigative secrecy, according to MP Michał Woś.
“For me, it’s proof that Giertych is effectively running the country, personally directing political repression and—most importantly—has access to and influence over materials protected by investigative secrecy. This is a measure of the collapse of our state,” wrote journalist Dawid Wildstein.
Michał Sopiński adds: “The Giertych tapes suggest that the ‘accountability campaign’ has been carefully scripted by Donald Tusk. Giertych is to play the role of the ‘bad cop,’ with Adam Bodnar playing the ‘good cop.’ Giertych is to be the public face of politically driven prosecutions, serving as a mask of so-called ‘rule of law.’”
More Tapes to Come?
TV Republika journalist Michał Jelonek is confident: “The latest installment of the Tusk tapes clearly shows one thing—Roman Giertych is acting as the trigger-man for political revenge, carrying out Donald Tusk’s orders. Adam Bodnar provides the respectable face for actions that defy the rule of law. It’s a clever political manipulation—Tusk using Bodnar’s moderate image to cover the actions of a revenge-driven puppet master based in Italy.”
Meanwhile, Sławomir Jastrzębowski highlighted reactions from politicians aligned with the ruling coalition after the first tapes were released. “Tapes. The narrative that PiS spied on Giertych with Pegasus via the CBA has just collapsed. The tapes presented today are from this year,” he noted.
Interestingly, Jarosław Olechowski of TV Republika revealed on air that not all tapes in possession of the Free Speech Zone media group have been released yet.
