Another summit with the participation of European leaders and the president of Ukraine took place in London on Monday. Yet, there was not a single representative from Poland present – not even the head of government, Donald Tusk. Whose fault is it? According to the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty – the president, Karol Nawrocki.
On Monday, another summit of the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Ukraine was held in London – focusing on ending the war beyond Poland’s eastern border.
After the talks, the Élysée Palace announced that the meeting of European leaders with Volodymyr Zelensky in London made it possible to continue “the joint work on the American peace plan” for Ukraine.
For several days, ever since the place and date of the summit were made public, one loud and widely discussed question kept appearing: why, once again, was Poland not invited to the negotiating table?
But instead of making an effort to participate in the talks, Donald Tusk – the head of the Polish government, once again sidelined in Europe – preferred to publish posts on the X platform, be it ones aimed at the United States or attacking President Karol Nawrocki. And although Tusk was not in London, the media favourable to him announced another “success”. It was about the number of views on the prime minister’s post on X.
Moreover, the politicians of the 13 December coalition, unwilling to admit that Poland’s absence from the talks in London was yet another diplomatic failure for this government, are trying to deny reality.
Czarzasty Outdid Himself
However, compared with what Włodzimierz Czarzasty came up with, Tomczyk’s theory is colloquially “nothing”. Even though, since yesterday, the prospect of a meeting between the presidents of Poland and Ukraine has been increasingly discussed, the new Speaker of the Sejm, when asked about such talks, launched yet another attack on President Nawrocki – linking Tusk’s absence in London with… plans for a meeting between the presidents.
As he stated, “he knows what such gestures and the lack of clear statements in such matters lead to.”
“The policy of the president leads to Poland not being in London” – he declared.
I blame the president for these situations. It is travelling abroad and presenting a foreign policy that is inconsistent with the government, and this leads to Poland being perceived less and less as a serious partner in any talks – he went on.
And even further… “How can one, at a time when we are not in London, once again enter into a dispute with the president of Ukraine?” – wonders the Speaker, completely ignoring the facts. “If we do not talk to the president of Ukraine, if we reject Ukraine, then let us not be surprised that we are not at the tables where decisions are made about the future of Ukraine, the future of Europe and, to a large extent, the future of Poland. This is simply irresponsible” – said Czarzasty, accusing the president, among other things, of criticising the Polish government in talks with foreign partners, including in the United States. “This creates a negative atmosphere around Poland, and foreign policy should be consistent” – he stated.
