The president of TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz, has been summoned by prosecutors in a case concerning Zbigniew Ziobro. Yesterday, the former justice minister — who recently left Hungary for the United States — was announced as a new commentator for the station belonging to the Free Speech Zone media group.
On Sunday, TV Republika reported that Ziobro had left Hungary, where he had been granted political asylum, and traveled to the United States. During an evening interview with the station, the Law and Justice politician personally confirmed the move. It was also announced that he would become a commentator for the Free Speech Zone station.
Today, National Prosecutor’s Office spokesman prosecutor Przemysław Nowak stressed that Ziobro is not currently subject to an international manhunt because there are no legal grounds for such action. Nowak also stated that “verification activities were initiated ex officio in order to determine whether there is suspicion that other individuals may have committed the crime of helping a suspect evade criminal responsibility, including escape.”
It now appears that one of the first steps taken in this matter is the summoning of Republika’s president for questioning.
As learned by the portal Niezalezna.pl, TV Republika president Tomasz Sakiewicz has already received a summons to appear before prosecutors as a witness in an investigation conducted “against Zbigniew Ziobro and others.” Sakiewicz has been ordered to appear on May 20 at the National Prosecutor’s Office, and the document reportedly bears the note “mandatory appearance.” The summons was signed by prosecutor Piotr Woźniak.
