TVN, attacking TV Republika, wants to cover up the Westerplatte issue? “This is a gigantic scandal”

TVN is trying to claim that it had no possibility of broadcasting the ceremonies in Gdańsk, while at the same time attacking TV Republika. “Maybe TVN is pretending it didn’t have access to that signal in order to cover up a truly big and scandalous issue?” – asks Tomasz Grodecki from Niezalezna.pl, pointing to the decision made in Gdańsk regarding the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.

On Sunday in Gdańsk, celebrations are taking place to mark the 45th anniversary of the signing of the August Agreements and the founding of NSZZ “Solidarność”. The station TVN24 issued a statement in which it claimed that it had not been allowed to attend the ceremonies organized by NSZZ “Solidarność” in the historic BHP Hall of the Gdańsk Shipyard. “According to the organizers’ intentions, we could only show you what would be shown by cameras belonging to a PiS-linked, right-wing station. We cannot and will not agree to that,” TVN journalists complained.

The broadcast signal from the ceremony is being made freely available by the currently most popular television channel in the country – TV Republika – but this does not sit well with the station on Wiertnicza Street.

Guests of TV Republika commented on the bizarre statement of the competing station live on air.

I think TVN’s schedule somehow managed without it, some viewers didn’t feel a sense of loss. But let’s remember, tomorrow is Westerplatte, and there is the matter of Republika, which was not allowed at Westerplatte. This is a gigantic scandal – pointed out Tomasz Grodecki from Niezalezna.pl. – Maybe these issues are somehow connected? Maybe TVN is pretending it didn’t have access to that signal in order to cover up a truly big and scandalous matter?

Aleksander Wierzejski, in turn, emphasized that “the novelty in 2025 is that there exists in the mainstream a powerful station with a huge reach, which can show reality as it really is.”

“Republika is being boycotted from many sides. This is part of a sequence of events in which right-wing journalists, right-wing media, and the right-wing audience are treated in Poland as trash that has no right to anything,” also noted Miłosz Manasterski, present in the studio.

Let us recall that the authorities of Gdańsk refused to allow TV Republika to set up an outdoor studio at Westerplatte during the ceremonies marking the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.
