TVN employee Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska attended a press conference of President Karol Nawrocki to ask whether the head of state agreed with the words of Radosław Sikorski (MSZ), Minister of Foreign Affairs, about the EU, which he had expressed during his expose. “Criticism of the European Commission and its policies is part of the political discourse, which we have the right to engage in. I would not clearly endorse those words, as the journalist might expect, because I draw my strength from the Polish nation and the Republic of Poland. The EU has made many mistakes,” explained the president.
TVN Employee Asked President About Sikorski’s Words
Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski (MSZ) delivered an expose in the Sejm today. In his speech, the politician criticized the United States and claimed that “if the SAFE instrument is not implemented, and in the event of another airstrike next year we do not shoot down Russian drones over Poland, then those who vote against SAFE will share responsibility.”
President Karol Nawrocki addressed Sikorski’s expose during the press conference. Among the journalists present was TVN employee Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska, who asked whether he would endorse Sikorski’s statement that “Poland’s national interest is a strong EU and cooperation.”
“I would endorse the words that Poland’s strength lies in Polish women and men, in our identity, culture, our strength, entrepreneurship, and innovation. I endorse the words that Poland’s strength is in Poland. Our strength must come from Poland. Of course, if we look at the European Union, Minister Sikorski outlined a certain problem, which he later analyzed in the context of a potential Polexit. Today, there is no such threat. I value Poland’s cooperation within the European Union,” replied the president.
“I Intend to Be Assertive in Relations with the EU”
He also recalled that “Minister Sikorski also spoke about the faulty chassis of the European Union – if the diagnosis is that the EU has made so many mistakes in identity, climate, and migration policy in recent years, it is our responsibility to use our voice and mandate in the European Union to reform it.”
“Criticism of the European Commission and its policies is part of the political discourse, which we have the right to engage in. I would not clearly endorse those words, as the journalist might expect, because I draw my strength from the Polish nation and the Republic of Poland. The EU has made many mistakes. It is good that together with Minister Sikorski they are learning from these mistakes. I intend to be assertive in relations with the EU to ensure that certain tragedies, which led to the war in Ukraine, do not happen again,” explained President Nawrocki.
