    Two suspects arrested in the case of Iwona Wieczorek’s disappearance

    There are the first arrests in the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek 12 years ago, RMF24 reported on Wednesday. In Gdansk, on the recommendation of the Malopolska Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office, police officers have caught Paweł P., an acquaintance of Iwona Wieczorek, who on the fateful night from 16 to 17 July 2010 was partying with the missing woman. The second person detained is a woman also from the 19-year-old’s entourage.

    Police searched the home of Paweł P., who was detained in connection with the disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek, less than two months ago. During these actions, officers secured, among other things, the man’s phone, as well as memory cards. Earlier, investigators had visited him several times, as well as the flats of his relatives.

    According to the National Prosecutor’s Office, due to the interest of the investigation, at this stage, no further information is being given as to the scope of the ongoing and planned trial activities.

    As RMF24 reported earlier, one of the detainees is Paweł P., an acquaintance of Iwona

    Wieczorek, who had been partying with the missing woman on the night of 16-17 July 2010.

    “During the operations, officers secured, among other things, Paweł P.’s phone, as well as memory cards. Investigators had previously been to his home several times, as well as to the flats of his relatives. A second detainee is also a person from Iwona Wieczorek’s entourage. More information is not being provided by the investigators,” – RMF24 wrote on Wednesday.

    The portal also reported that, for the time being, it is not known what charges are to be brought against the detainees. “Paweł P. is on his way to Krakow. He will be questioned at the headquarters of the Małopolska National Prosecutor’s Office. The unit there, known as the Prosecutor’s X-File, has been handling the case since March 2019,” the portal reported.

    Iwona Wieczorek’s case

    In July it was 12 years since Iwona Wieczorek went missing. The case is currently being investigated by prosecutors from the X-Files, operating in the Malopolska Regional Division of the Department for Organised Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow.

    Iwona Wieczorek was last seen on the night of 16-17 July 2010. The then 19-year-old girl had gone with friends to a club in Sopot after a barbecue. After leaving the disco, she was walking home alone in Gdańsk. She was registered by CCTV cameras in several places, but the girl has never come home. A 12-year search failed to turn up any trace of her.
