Two weeks after police entered Sakiewicz’s home. TV Republika CEO still has not received documents

“Despite the deadlines set out in the Code of Criminal Procedure (KPK) having already passed (a week ago), the police have not delivered the approval of the entry into my apartment, nor the justification for the deprivation of liberty and the removal of my assistant from the apartment. As a result, the entire incident currently has the status of an assault, unlawful deprivation of liberty, and kidnapping”, wrote on social media Tomasz Sakiewicz, CEO of TV Republika.

Exactly two weeks ago, police officers entered the home of TV Republika CEO Tomasz Sakiewicz. The officers did not identify themselves and handcuffed a woman who demanded it – the assistant of the head of TV Republika – and then carried out a search of the apartment without a warrant. The intervention at the premises was related to a report of a child suicide attempt. It was one of dozens of incidents linked to false reports targeting journalists and staff of the station.

Fourteen days have passed since the incident, and in the meantime false reports have also affected Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz and President Karol Nawrocki

A reaction from state authorities took time. Before the first information about arrests in the case emerged [false reports concerning TV Republika], ministers responsible for Poland’s security sector, including the Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński, publicly mocked the alarms raised by employees of the “House of the Free Word” station. The prosecution service has also, so far, failed to provide the relevant documents regarding the forced entry into the apartment of Tomasz Sakiewicz.

A week ago, the matter was raised by MP of Law and Justice, Mariusz Gosek.

“It concerns a violation of Article 220 § 3 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Even when police officers – who behaved as if they were impostors, especially one of these men – enter the apartment, in this case the editor-in-chief and CEO of TV Republika, Mr. Tomasz Sakiewicz, and do not deliver the relevant decision, because the action, as the spokesperson indicated, was urgent, they are obliged within seven days – and this deadline is final and non-extendable – to deliver the appropriate decision approved by the prosecutor,” Gosek said in front of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.

Another week has passed

Although another week has passed, the documents still have not reached Sakiewicz.

“Sirs, despite the deadlines set out in the Code of Criminal Procedure (a week ago), the police have not delivered the approval of the entry into my apartment, nor the justification for the deprivation of liberty and the removal of my assistant from the apartment. As a result, the entire incident currently has the status of an assault, unlawful deprivation of liberty, and kidnapping,” the CEO of TV Republika Tomasz Sakiewicz said today on the X platform.

He added that “the persons involved cannot be regarded as anything other than attackers and kidnappers. Those who are covering them up are accomplices to this crime and its concealment”.
