U.S. Embassy in Poland Shares Photo: “There’s Something Especially Moving About This Day”

“There is something especially moving about All Saints’ Day in Poland. It is a moment when people gather to honor together the memory of those who came before us,” reads a post from the U.S. Embassy in Poland.

Yesterday marked the celebration of All Saints’ Day, which in Polish tradition is associated with visiting the graves of loved ones and lighting candles as a sign of remembrance and faith in a reunion in the world to come.

People also remember Poles who rest outside the country’s borders – those who fell in wars and those who died in exile.

The designated U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose, joined in Poland’s November 1st observances.

“There is something especially moving about All Saints’ Day in Poland. It is a moment when people gather to honor together the memory of those who came before us. Designated Ambassador Tom Rose joined Poles in lighting candles as a sign of remembrance,” the embassy’s post reads.

The embassies of Sweden and Canada also commemorated this Polish tradition, though without the personal participation of their ambassadors.
