Polish government under fire over alleged secret transfer of Patriot missiles to Ukraine

“We have received very disturbing reports that the government secretly sent Patriot missiles to Ukraine without informing Parliament, missiles that we badly need for our own air-defense system. If this is true, it is a scandal!” said Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak. “If reports that PAC-3 MSE missiles have been handed over to Ukraine are confirmed, we will be dealing with a gigantic scandal,” added Mariusz Błaszczak, former head of the Ministry of National Defence.

“If the government has indeed decided to transfer them abroad at a time when it is itself warning of possible Russian provocations and threats to Poland’s security, this sounds like an action completely at odds with the authorities’ fundamental duty, namely, to ensure the safety of their own citizens,”

Błaszczak commented.

The former defense minister recalled that PAC-3 MSE missiles are interceptor missiles used in the Patriot system, designed to combat ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aerial targets.

“They are the most valuable element of Poland’s air defense, the real development which began under the Law and Justice government,”

he emphasized.

Earlier, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak had reported on the matter:

“It appears that in March, without the Sejm being informed, the government handed over to Ukraine expensive and difficult-to-obtain interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. They had been purchased by Poland from the United States for the purpose of building the multi-layered air-defense system you have been hearing about in the media for years, a system that has still not been completed. These are the only missiles Poland had, or has, at its disposal capable of intercepting Russian Iskander missiles, which pose a threat to Poland and are deployed in the Kaliningrad region,”
