Ukrainian orphans explore Polish culture and history while visiting the Presidential Residence in Wisła, strengthening ties between the nations.
At the invitation of Poland’s First Lady, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, orphans from the Children’s Home in Uzhhorod, Ukraine, enjoyed a stay at the Presidential Residence in Wisła from August 11-17. These children, originally from Pionierske near Mariupol, were evacuated due to the Russian artillery bombardments. After finding temporary refuge in Poland, they returned to Ukraine, where the Caritas Center in Uzhhorod continued to provide care for over sixty children.
Exploring Polish Culture and History
During their visit, the Ukrainian children immersed themselves in the rich history and traditions of the Beskid Śląski region. They toured historic sites in Kraków and participated in various cultural workshops, including lessons on writing with quill pens and wool spinning. The children also explored the natural beauty of the area through educational walks, guided by local foresters. This visit not only offered a moment of respite but also fostered a deeper connection between Poland and Ukraine.
