Unidentified object fell in the Lublin region. Explosion occurred

An unidentified object fell during the night into a cornfield in the village of Osiny in Łuków County (Lublin Voivodeship) and exploded. Police officers found charred metal and plastic debris at the site. As a result of the explosion, windows were shattered in several houses. Residents reported a loud bang heard during the night. Before 9:00 a.m., the military issued a statement on the matter. According to the Operational Command (DO RSZ), the object in Osiny… was a part of an old engine.

According to Senior Sergeant Marcin Józwik from the Łuków police, after 2 a.m. on Tuesday night, police officers received a report of “an explosion, a blast” in the village of Osiny in Łuków County.

“In the cornfield we found charred elements of various sizes, scattered within a radius of several dozen meters. These are charred metal and plastic fragments,” the officer specified.

Authorities are determining what the unidentified object is. – Police officers are on the scene, we are checking the area – added Senior Sgt. Józwik.

“Crater” and “object resembling a propeller”

The local portal lukow.tv reported unofficially that as a result of the impact “a crater formed in the ground”, and among the recovered debris was “an object resembling a propeller.” Łuków TV published footage from a home security camera in the area, allegedly showing the moment of the explosion – a loud bang is heard and a flash is visible.

“I was woken up by a powerful bang that shook the window panes. I looked outside but didn’t see anything. Only in the morning did I notice the lights of police cars,” said one witness of the explosion in an interview with Łuków TV.

No one was injured in the incident. According to media reports, windows were shattered in three nearby houses.

Around 8:40 a.m., the police issued a statement on their social media profiles:

“Police officers were dispatched to the site, and during the inspection of the area, they discovered metal and plastic elements of an unknown object in an uninhabited area. No one was injured in the incident. A nearby farm building was damaged (shattered windows, broken doors).”

It was added that “activities are being carried out under the supervision of a prosecutor.”

Residents concerned, crisis team convened

Local media report significant concern among residents.

According to the portal lukow24.info, the Lublin Voivode is on the way to Osiny, and the military is also expected to arrive at the site. The Municipal Crisis Management Team was urgently convened.

Deputy Minister of Interior and Administration, Czesław Mroczek, said on Jedynka Radio in the morning that the government would issue a statement later today regarding the incident in Osiny.

He assured that “there is no danger to nearby residents.” When asked whether it could have been a Russian missile, he stated that “there is not enough evidence for that.”

Military: “It was a part of an old engine”

Before 9:00 a.m., the Operational Command of the Armed Forces issued a statement on the case.

“After conducting preliminary analyses of radar system recordings, no violation of Polish airspace was detected last night, either from the direction of Ukraine or Belarus,” it was announced.

According to “initial assessments” – the object was “a part of an old engine with a propeller.” Where it came from, how it got airborne, and why it fell last night – the military has not explained.

Operational Command (DO RSZ) reported that it had activated aerial and ground search-and-rescue teams.
