“Under the guise of combating illegal content and disinformation, the government seeks to restrict freedom of speech by introducing a mechanism for blocking statements through arbitrary administrative decisions made by officials. This is not how it should look,” wrote President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki on social media.
“Today is the deadline for registering to participate in the public hearing on the government’s draft amendment to the Act on the Provision of Electronic Services and certain other acts. Under the guise of combating illegal content and disinformation, the government seeks to restrict freedom of speech by introducing a mechanism for blocking statements through arbitrary administrative decisions made by officials. This is not how it should look,” President Karol Nawrocki emphasized on social media.
“It’s worth speaking up before they try to take your voice away,” he added. The matter concerns the government’s draft amendment to the Act on the Provision of Electronic Services and certain other acts. A public hearing on this issue is scheduled for November 4, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
The draft aims to align Polish legislation with the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on a Single Market for Digital Services (DSA; Digital Services Act).
According to the legislator, “this will create in Poland a modern system for effectively combating illegal content and disinformation, which will protect users online and ensure transparent rules for the operation of online platforms.”
On October 17, the first Sejm reading of the government’s draft took place – the motion to reject the project was not adopted, as the ruling coalition voted against it.
