“The Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek has submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, a motion to lift the immunity of Member of Parliament Zbigniew Ziobro. The motion also requests consent for the detention and temporary arrest of the MP,” said the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office, Prosecutor Anna Adamiak, during a press conference.
A statement regarding this matter was published on the website of the National Prosecutor’s Office (PK).
Żurek wants Ziobro arrested
The Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek submitted today to the Speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Szymon Hołownia, a motion for the Sejm’s consent to hold MP Zbigniew Ziobro criminally liable, as well as for his detention and temporary arrest, in connection with a well-founded suspicion of committing 26 crimes. The basis for filing the motion to lift Zbigniew Ziobro’s immunity are the findings of the investigation conducted by Investigative Team No. 2 of the National Prosecutor’s Office (PK), case file reference no. 1001-22.Ds.1.2025, concerning irregularities in the allocation, expenditure, and settlement of funds from the Justice Fund, i.e. an offence under Article 231 § 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code – the statement reads.
Furthermore, Żurek’s prosecution office reports that “the offences described in the motion consist of failure to fulfil duties and abuse of authority by Zbigniew Ziobro, as a public official, in connection with his functions as Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General.”
The MP is alleged to have undertaken these actions to obtain material benefits for other persons, as well as personal and political gain, acting jointly and in concert with identified individuals – including Dariusz M., Marcin R., and Michał – and with other unidentified persons, within an organised criminal group which he established and led. In doing so, he allegedly appropriated or attempted to appropriate movable property entrusted to him, in the form of money from the Justice Fund, acting to the detriment of the public interest, causing damage to the property of the State Treasury and to private interests, by limiting the availability of funds from the Justice Fund to entities legally entitled to receive them – the statement continues.
