Yesterday (21 Jan. 2026), a violent raid took place at the National Council of the Judiciary office in Warsaw. Approximately 100 police officers, led by two military prosecutors acting on the orders of Prime Minister Tusk, broke into the building and seized all relevant court files, including files on disciplinary proceedings against judges politically associated with Tusk and files concerning the alleged coup d’état carried out by Tusk.
Police Operation and Alleged Abuse of Power
At the same time, physical violence was used against judges and administrative staff present at the office, and their freedom was unlawfully restricted. This violent action by Tusk’s forces constitutes an unlawful attack by the executive branch on what are described as the last bastions of an independent judiciary in Poland, which has already been almost completely subjugated to what is characterized as Tusk’s dictatorial power.
Fears of Further Attacks on Judicial Independence
According to these claims, Tusk’s next target will likely be a police assault on the Supreme Court in order to prevent the election of a new Chief Justice (President of the Supreme Court), scheduled for late February or early March.
The authors of the message appeal for it to be widely shared, stating that the situation in Poland is critically bad. They argue that yesterday’s thuggish attack was deliberately carried out on a day when President Nawrocki was abroad, attending the World Economic Forum in Davos. They further warn that the Office of the President itself is also threatened by Tusk’s actions.
