Vote of No Confidence Against the Agriculture Minister. The Sejm Has Made Its Decision

Stefan Krajewski will not be dismissed from his position as Minister of Agriculture. The motion to pass a vote of no confidence against him was submitted by the Law and Justice party (PiS). On Thursday, the Sejm rejected the motion.

A total of 201 MPs voted in favor of the motion, 235 voted against it, and no one abstained.

During Thursday’s parliamentary debate, Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended Krajewski.

PiS’s allegations concerned, among other things, allowing the EU–Mercosur agreement to be signed and consenting to what they described as an unfavorable EU–Ukraine agreement for Poland. MPs from the governing coalition defended the minister, arguing that the motion was political in nature and that Krajewski is rebuilding the agricultural sector after what they claim was damage caused by PiS.

On Wednesday, the Sejm’s Agriculture Committee issued a negative opinion on the motion of no confidence against Krajewski. According to PiS MP Krzysztof Ciecióra, the ruling majority prevailed by a single vote.

A motion of no confidence may be submitted by at least 69 MPs. The Sejm passes a vote of no confidence against a minister by an absolute majority of the statutory number of deputies.
