Warsaw Uprising – A Source of Unity or Division Among Poles? New Survey Results Revealed!

How do Poles view the Warsaw Uprising over time? The results of the latest survey conducted by IBRiS show a clear shift in public sentiment.

On the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, various commemorative events are being held across Poland. Many of them are organized locally by Gazeta Polska clubs.

However, the largest social event on this day is the Warsaw Uprising March. These commemorations begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Roman Dmowski Roundabout. Images from this very location are shared around the world every year. This year, however, the authorities have, unsurprisingly, decided to throw obstacles in the organizers’ way.

The Warsaw Uprising Through the Eyes of Poles Today

To mark the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, the IBRiS polling institute, commissioned by Rzeczpospolita, asked Poles whether the uprising was necessary and should have taken place. This issue has long divided Polish society.

According to the survey, 51.3% of respondents answered “yes” to the question regarding the justification of the Warsaw Uprising, while 21.5% held the opposite view, and 26.7% had no clear opinion.

Support for the Warsaw Uprising is declared by both left-leaning individuals (59%) and voters of Konfederacja from the most recent parliamentary elections (71%), as well as an overwhelming 97% of those who voted for Grzegorz Braun in the first round of the presidential election.

Women (59%), people around the age of 30 (64%), and those in their seventies (62%) are the most likely to assess the Uprising positively. High levels of support are also seen among residents of smaller towns (56%) and individuals with secondary education (58%).

The newspaper notes that support for the Uprising has increased compared to previous years. In a 2018 survey conducted by SW Research for Rz, only 35% of respondents considered the decision to launch the uprising justified, while 29% held the opposite view.

The IBRiS survey was conducted from July 25–27, 2025, on a sample of 1,067 respondents using the CATI method.
