“In my parliamentary office, a search was conducted by special services with the consent of the authorities of the Sejm. Electronic devices disappeared from the office — devices on which I had stored hundreds of pieces of information from constituents who had provided me with details related to the performance of my parliamentary mandate,” stated MP Dariusz Matecki on social media. Matecki had been released from pre-trial detention yesterday after two months in custody.
On Wednesday, April 23, the District Court in Warsaw ruled that Dariusz Matecki, a member of the Law and Justice party (PiS), could be released from detention upon posting bail of 500,000 PLN, provided that the payment was made by May 6.
The bail for Matecki was paid, and on Friday, shortly after 5:00 p.m., he left the detention centre in Radom, where he had been held for two months. The court ordered that he be placed under police supervision, requiring weekly check-ins and imposing a ban on leaving the country.
Matecki: Burglary into an MP’s Office
Today, MP Dariusz Matecki posted on social media that a search had been conducted in his parliamentary office by special services “with the consent of the Sejm authorities.”
“Electronic devices disappeared from the office, devices containing hundreds of pieces of information from constituents who entrusted me with details relating to the performance of my parliamentary duties. Most crucially: for two months, neither I nor my lawyer were served with a decision regarding the search, nor a list of seized items. I was deprived of my parliamentary tablet computer, which provided access to the official Sejm email account. Upon entering the office, I found that all my personal belongings had been rearranged. At no point was I informed about the search or the items taken — which was the prosecutor’s duty,”
Matecki wrote.
According to the politician, “it is possible that items could have been planted, or fictitious evidence fabricated.”
He reported that he immediately notified the Marshal’s Guard about the matter and submitted his resignation from the use of the office in question.
“I do not know what might have been installed in that room. A few months ago, we discovered an activated micro-microphone in the Sejm’s bar. This is what parliamentarism looks like today,”
he added.
Matecki had been detained for two months. During that time, no investigative actions were carried out with his participation.
