“We are not leaving the party.” PiS MEP on the future of Morawiecki’s association

“Some media outlets would be pleased to see PiS fall apart. We, however, do not intend to give them that satisfaction. I have stressed this from the very beginning. I also have the impression that certain people within our own formation would very much like to push us out. Still, we will not allow that,” emphasized Piotr Müller, a PiS MEP who is a member of the Rozwój Plus association.

Monday’s meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki lasted seven hours and was devoted primarily to the Rozwój Plus association of the former prime minister. On Tuesday, both politicians delivered joint statements.

The PiS leader indicated that the essence of the agreement is a compromise “boiling down to the association’s activities being conducted within the party.”

“It will be a very strong forum for constructive activity from the party’s perspective, and above all, it will create a situation in which the party will have two lungs,”

Kaczyński said.

Opinions circulated online from some PiS politicians, including Tobiasz Bocheński and Jacek Sasin, associated with the party’s more hardline right-wing faction, that the association’s activities would be suspended.

A clear position on the matter was presented the same day on social media by the PiS spokesperson, Rafał Bochenek.

“In line with Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński’s statement, the activities of the Rozwój Plus association and all activities of its members will be focused on initiatives within the Expert Council, within the party’s structure, rather than alongside it,”

Bochenek wrote.

He emphasized that all current members of the association would automatically become members of the Expert Council. At the same time, in accordance with the framework outlined by Bochenek, Morawiecki’s association will not admit further PiS members, establish any local structures, or appoint plenipotentiaries.

“We are not leaving the party or building a new one”

Piotr Müller, a PiS MEP, commented on the arrangements between Kaczyński and Morawiecki on TVN24. The politician admitted that he hopes the situation within the party will stabilize.

He also announced that “the association is not being dissolved, which was in fact explicitly stated at yesterday’s press conference.”

“Therefore, it will continue its work, because we want to attract people from outside PiS to our joint activities. Of course, we want this activity to influence what happens within PiS, hence the reference to the Expert Council,”

the politician stressed.

Müller added: “We are not leaving the party; we are not building a new party.”

“Some media outlets would be pleased if PiS fell apart. But we do not intend to give them that satisfaction. I have emphasized this from the outset. And while I have the impression that some within our own ranks would very much like to push us out. Still, we will not allow that,”

he assured.
