“Although we understand each other perfectly, we are different presidents,” declared President Karol Nawrocki when speaking about Andrzej Duda. In his view, many people failed to appreciate the presidency of his predecessor.
Friday marked 100 days of Karol Nawrocki’s presidency. He took office after the two terms served by President Andrzej Duda. How does the current head of state assess his predecessor?
“As far as President Andrzej Duda is concerned, he was my president,” Nawrocki stated in an interview with the weekly Do Rzeczy.
He emphasized that he “respects President Duda and believes that those were ten good years of presidency.” He pointed out that those who now see him as someone more radical than the previous president “had not appreciated Duda’s actions for many years anyway.”
“We can see that we are dealing with a political environment that did not appreciate Andrzej Duda’s extended hand, and in many respects does not appreciate my extended hand either,”
he said.
Nawrocki noted: “Although we understand each other perfectly, we are different presidents,” he stressed.
“For me, a certain sense of community with President Lech Kaczyński or with President Andrzej Duda is important, but I am a president whose name is Karol Nawrocki,”
he stated.
